Challenges

There were 3 main challenges:

  • No website: With no existing website, I needed to start from scratch. Luke had tried to DIY a website but could not get it to look the way they wanted.

  • Focus on tech industry: Luke’s clientele and target audience were companies within the tech industry. The website needed to reflect this and show their authority within this niche.

  • Bilingual: Whilst the website needed to be in English, some content needed to be in Japanese to engage with visitors.

Solutions

To resolve these problems, I designed and built a Squarespace 7.1 website with the following solutions:

  • Planned, researched and designed a new website built in Squarespace.

  • I used a sleek gradient, modern sans-serif fonts, and a clean interface that took inspiration from other tech companies like Apple. Elements had subtle drop-shadows for a futuristic aesthetic, and icons had the same gradient for consistency. Within the colour palette, I used hex code #27221F for the black text which is a reference to Japanese sumi-iro ink.

  • I listed the benefits and features of using L James Translations, incorporated testimonials, displayed reputable badges, and visually summarised Luke’s professional experience.

  • Created a page entirely in Japanese using Luke’s translations to connect with Japanese visitors.

Results

Visitors are highly engaged with the website

Analytics show that people are finding the website highly engaging and spending on average 84 seconds viewing each page, far exceeding industry standards of 54 seconds. This indicates that visitors are deeply engaged with our content and actively exploring Luke’s service.

Website shame eliminated, proud to share

Luke had previously tried to DIY the website but was unsatisfied with how it looked and it didn’t align with their brand vision. Now Luke is proud to share the website and is confident talking to leads.

"I wanted to make sure that my site evokes the tech sector, as this is the main area I work in. Emily made sure that this was clear not only in the copy, but also in the overall design of the site."
